Book Review and Blog Tour: Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler

My Thoughts

As a Christian parent, I want my kids to know what their beliefs are and why they believe what they believe, so they can stand strong in their faith. In Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door, the co-authors explore many faith-related quiestions that youths face daily, and through the use of humor and pop-culture, mixed with good bible-based teachings, they help teens and young adults answer those questions about their own belief systems.

Presented in short chapters, of 3-5 pages, the categories covered include: Myths about God, Myths about Jesus, Myths about the Bible, Myths about the resurrection, Myths about Religion and Christianity and Myths about Life and Happiness. The co-authors attempt to refute the myths that many Christians harbor, both young and old. Each chapter also contains a “brain food” section at the end of each. This brain food section encourages further, in-depth study of the relevant Bible passages discussed and would make a great Bible Study or devotional.

Overall, I found Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door to be an interesting, quick read, touching on many issues that most are faced with when it comes to standing strong in our faith. Although the book targets teens, I think the information it contains is useful for many Christians, both younger and older. With it’s simple, straightforward language, most would find value in it.
