In my pursuit of trying to balance engaged followers with an increase in visitors, I came up with the idea of combining a blog carnival with a giveaway. My thinking is this: when I hold a giveaway, I see an increase in followers and visitors, but rarely do I see an increase in engaged followers or visitors – but, when I provide useful information to my visitors/followers, I see an increase in engagement but not necessarily an increase in visitors/followers. I thought, what if I could marry the engagement that useful content provides, with some of the numbers that holding a giveaway brings? That’s when the idea hit me to combine a blog carnival with a giveaway.

Carnival of Frugal Experiments and 50/50 Raffle

I was excited about the idea and talked it over with a few trusted bloggy friends and they seemed receptive to the idea. While writing up my ideas, it came to me that contributors (“carnies” if you will) should also have a little added incentive to providing quality content. That’s when I decided to split the pot and do a 50/50 raffle instead. So, if you provide content for the carnival, you are eligible for 50% of the prize pot, each month.

The month of November Carnival will include a roundup of blog posts pertaining to Thanksgiving, along with an entrance fee of $6 – $5 for the prize and $1 for admin/promo fees. Once the Carnival goes live, we will have a 50/50 drawing – 50% of the pot will go to a visitor and 50% of the pot will go to a contributing blogger. What is a blog carnival and why would you want to join us?

A blog carnival is a community of blogs coming together to post on a particular topic, in an effort to provide useful content for visitors, all in one place. This allows the fans/visitors to explore different viewpoints on a given topic, easily. As well, this allows the bloggers or “carnie’s” to support each other’s efforts to grow their blog traffic, generate visitors, extend their blog’s reach to new and different audiences, build backlinks, build quality content and help with SEO.
